Public Health Nurse for Asylum Seekers in Galway

The need for a Specialist Public Health Nurse for asylum seekers in the Galway region was identified and an appointment followed in 2002. Her role involved working full time with Asylum seekers in the direct provision centers. Currently the Public Health Nurse works in conjunction with the Area Medical Officer providing BCG clinics for children under three months, health-screening services, health promotion services and contributes to the overall development of the service. The public health nurse acts as the first point of contact and an advocate for the client and will refer to other services / agencies if necessary on behalf of the client. If you wish to meet the public health nurse the reception will make an appointment for you. Any health concerns will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
